Enhancements, Fixes, and Known Issues 12/25/2023
The following enhancements, fixes, and known issues are found in this release, dated 12/25/2023:
Expanded Coverage
Live ransomware protection for EBS Snapshots
This feature provides ransomware protection for active infrastructure and third-party backups running on AWS. It automatically protects snapshots created by applications and third-party backups at the time of their creation. Thanks to our cloud-native integration, Elastio adapts to the largest environments on demand without needing any management. Additionally, it incorporates existing workflows through the use of tags.
Live ransomware protection for EFS
This feature provides ransomware protection for live EFS file systems. EFS is the first asset type where we directly integrate with AWSBackup restore test capability.
Improved User Experience
Ransomware protection for AWS backup recovery points without importing them into Elastio
This feature enables customers to insert ransomware protection into an existing AWS Backup implementation without any changes to the existing backup procedures and processes. See this tutorial for more details. Assets available for threat detection include but are not limited to: AWS EBS snapshots, AWS S3 buckets, AWS EFS, AWS AMIs.
Introducing Last Clean, Last Infected Snapshot for EC2/EBS for Fast Recovery From Ransomware Attacks
This feature streamlines the remediation and forensics process in the event that an infection is detected through EC2 or EBS live ransomware protection. It ensures that administrators can quickly revert to the last known clean or infected state, enhancing response efficiency and minimizing downtime.
Incremental Scanning: Targeted Scans for Changed Files to Boost Performance
We have implemented incremental scanning capabilities that only scan files with recent changes instead of rescanning all files. This enhancement not only speeds up the scanning process but also lowers the cost for our customers.
Malware scan performance optimizations
We enhanced the speed of our full malware scans when we performed incremental ransomware scans.
Bug Fixes
-
EBS snapshot import would sometimes fail on Linux when child job completion was not awaited. This was fixed.
-
The ‘An internal error has occurred’ error on EC2 / EBS backup was fixed.
-
iScan of Windows EC2 RP failing with “IO pool error Caused by: task 235 panicked” was stabilized.
-
S3 restore would occasionally fail with
numeric field did not have utf-8 text
. This was fixed. -
The export with ID 'b-id' already exists
failure mode was fixed in iScan. -
Previously if there were duplicate RPs detected, the AWS EBS import job would fail, this behavior was fixed.
-
EBS backup “Failed to get device name of attached EBS volume by serial number” was eliminated by adding wait time when requesting device name.
-
EC2/EBS backups would in rare cases fail with `‘InvalidSnapshot.NotFound’ error. This was fixed.
